rembrandt-style

Whoever you are holding me now in hand,
Without one thing all will be useless,
I give you fair warning before you attempt me further,
I am not what you supposed, but far different.

Who is he that would become my follower?
Who would sign himself a candidate for my affections?

The way is suspicious, the result uncertain, perhaps destructive,
You would have to give up all else, I alone would expect to be your sole and exclusive standard,
Your novitiate would even then be long and exhausting,
The whole past theory of your life and all conformity to the lives around you would have to be abandon’d,
Therefore release me now before troubling yourself any further, let go your hand from my shoulders,
Put me down and depart on your way.

Or else by stealth in some wood for trial,
Or back of a rock in the open air,
(For in any roof’d room of a house I emerge not, nor in company,
And in libraries I lie as one dumb, a gawk, or unborn, or dead,)
But just possibly with you on a high hill, first watching lest any person for miles around approach unawares,
Or possibly with you sailing at sea, or on the beach of the sea or some quiet island,
Here to put your lips upon mine I permit you,
With the comrade’s long-dwelling kiss or the new husband’s kiss,
For I am the new husband and I am the comrade.

Or if you will, thrusting me beneath your clothing,
Where I may feel the throbs of your heart or rest upon your hip,
Carry me when you go forth over land or sea;
For thus merely touching you is enough, is best,
And thus touching you would I silently sleep and be carried eternally.

But these leaves conning you con at peril,
For these leaves and me you will not understand,
They will elude you at first and still more afterward, I will certainly elude you,
Even while you should think you had unquestionably caught me, behold!
Already you see I have escaped from you.

For it is not for what I have put into it that I have written this book,
Nor is it by reading it you will acquire it,
Nor do those know me best who admire me and vauntingly praise me,
Nor will the candidates for my love (unless at most a very few) prove victorious,
Nor will my poems do good only, they will do just as much evil, perhaps more,
For all is useless without that which you may guess at many times and not hit, that which I hinted at;
Therefore release me and depart on your way.

le cancre

Il dit non avec la tête
Mais il dit oui avec le coeur
Il dit oui à ce qu'il aime
Il dit non au professeur
Il est debout
On le questionne
Et tous les problèmes sont posés
Soudain le fou rire le prend
Et il efface tout
Les chiffres et les mots
Les dates et les noms
Les phrases et les pièges
Et malgré les menaces du maître
Sous les huées des enfants prodiges
Avec les craies de toutes les couleurs
Sur le tableau noir du malheur
Il dessine le visage du bonheur

last summer

Mon bel amour, mon cher amour, ma déchirure

Domestic

If, when studying road atlases
while taking, as you call it, your
morning dump, you shout down to
me names like Miami City, Franconia,
Cancún, as places for you to take
me to from here, can I help it if

all I can think is things that are
stupid, like he loves me he loves me
not? I don’t think so. No more
than, some mornings, waking to your
hands around me, and remembering
these are the fingers, the hands I’ve

over and over given myself to, I can
stop myself from wondering does that
mean they’re the same I’ll grow
old with. Yesterday, in the café I
keep meaning to show you, I thought
this is how I’ll die maybe, alone,

somewhere too far away from wherever
you are then, my heart racing from
espresso and too many cigarettes,
my head down on the table’s cool
marble, and the ceiling fan turning
slowly above me, like fortune, the

part of fortune that’s half-wished-
for only—it did not seem the worst
way. I thought this is another of
those things I’m always forgetting
to tell you, or don’t choose to
tell you, or I tell you but only

in the same way, each morning, I
keep myself from saying too loud I
love you until the moment you flush
the toilet, then I say it, when the
rumble of water running down through
the house could mean anything: flood,

your feet descending the stairs any
moment; any moment the whole world,
all I want of the world, coming down.

This is a New Day Of a New Month Of a New Year 2019

This is a new day
Of a new month
Of a New Year
And what is the first thing that you did
Some may have went to parties
Alcohol spirits ethno, I'm not judging it's your soul
Some of you in the privacy of your home alone
May be watching the Golden ball dropping on Dick Clark's Rock in New Years...
Even few will be at churches on their knees
Welcoming in the New Year
Fellow humans let us cheer
This is a new day
Of a new month
Of a New Year
And what is the first thing that you did
A day in the Lord is like a thousand years
So do not fear
11:50pm 10
11:51pm 9
11:52pm 8
11:53pm 7
11:54pm 6
11:55pm 5
11:56pm 4
11:57pm 3
11:58pm 2
11:59pm 1
12:00am 0
Happy New Year
This is a new day
Of a new month
Of a New Year
New hour of new day in a new year
This is a new day
Of a new month
Of a New Year how do you celebrate the dropping ball
Happy New Year one and all

written words by James Edward Lee Sr.

Kerouac

Kerouac yea Kerouac
His words the words so many words just
All brothers of the same horn sisters the saxophone
Notes music words a melody a quote a figure eight a figure
If you listen close to the drummer
It's like a mirror and your invisible
Like your in a back seat
No handles on the doors just a beautiful driver up front
She knows where she's going
Kerouac the observation machine
Caressing the most passing of scenes with photographic love
Passionate photographic love
Venerable as anyone knew
His memories pull shades up and down
Doors are not done telegrams arrive
Every morning something extra ???
Remembering everything like a snatch of melody
A drumbeat remembering mythologizing
So fast all the time moving
The words the words are drumsticks pounding out drum beats
Like a monk like a monk melody
With mistakes yea mistakes and sudden inspirations
Edges corners explosions convections
All fast through a slow motion landscape
Yea fast through a slow motion landscape

sunday morning words

this works without words.

you so fresh and I with the remains of the past day and last night. all sensation concentrated only on this one place, head still in the sleepy fog, gentle pressure. your penetration as a morning pain. a mixture of pounding vocals that comes out of my mouth. I press my head down on the pillow, my tongue licks the white fabric. no more loud.

and then everything feels just warm. I can hear you again, your consonants mingling with my vocals and forming our words. Sunday morning words.

Sunday morning words.

After School, Street Football, Eighth Grade - Dennis Cooper

Their jeans sparkled, cut off
way above the knee, and my
friends and I would watch them
from my porch, books of poems
lost in our laps, eyes wide as
tropical fish behind our glasses.

Their football flashed from hand
to hand, tennis shoes gripped
the asphalt, sweat's spotlight on
their strong backs. We would
dream of hugging them, and crouch
later in weird rooms, and come.

Once their ball fell our way
so two of them came over, hands
on their hips, asking us to
throw it to them, which Arthur did,
badly, and they chased it back.
One turned to yell, “Thanks”

and we dreamed of his long
teeth in our necks. We
wanted them to wander over,
place deep wet underarms to
our lips, and then their white
asses, then those loud mouths.

One day one guy was very tired,
didn't move fast enough,
so a car hit him and he sprawled
fifty feet away, sexy, but he was
dead, blood like lipstick, then
those great boys stood together

on the sidewalk and we joined them,
mixing in like one big friendship
to the cops, who asked if we were,
and those boys were too sad to counter.
We'd known his name, Tim, and how
he'd turned to thank us nicely

but now he was under a sheet
anonymous as God, the big boys crying,
spitting words, and we stunned
like intellectuals get, our high
voices soft as the tinkling of a
chandelier on a ceiling too high to see.

nicht zuviel

Beschwer über den Bart

Was ist bey schönem Mund ein starck gewachsner
Bart/
Der Liebe Wespen-Nest/ ein Dornstrauch um die
Rosen/
Ein Stoppel süsser Frucht/ ein scharffer Distel-Zaun/
Ein Schrancken/ welchen wir den Hafen sperren
schaun/

Du hast den Seneca und Plato wohl gelesen;

Erbarme dich, Licht,
Mich küssen hungrige Nächte.

in gedanken

dir schreiben werde. Nichts ist, wie
du es erwartest: eine Reihe
aus Bildern ohne Bilder, in denen
die Wände nur weiß sind und nichts
zeigen außer sich selbst. In den Bildern:
eine Schachtel aus Luft in einer Schachtel
aus Raum in den Bildern. Nichts ist
in der Schachtel in der Schachtel
die nicht aus Fleisch ist wie du
oder ich. Weiße Wände. Außer
der Schachtel, die nur im Gedicht
ist, erwartest du mich ohne Bilder
und Fleisch ohne Schachteln und Luft.

die süssen stunden

Verliebte Aue

Wo sind die stunden
Der süsssen zeit /
Da ich zu erst empfunden /
Wie deine lieblichkeit
Mich dir verbunden?
Sie sind verrauscht / es bleibet doch dabey /
Daß alle lust vergänglich sey.
Das reine schertzen /
So mich ergetzt /
Und in dem tieffen hertzen
sein merckmahl eingesetzt /
Läst mich in schmertzen /

Herman Allmers (1821 1902)

Feldeinsamkeit
Ich liege still im hohen, grünen Gras
Und sende lange meinen Blick nach oben,
Von Grillen rings umschwirrt ohn’ Unterlaß,
Von Himmelsbläue wundersam umwoben.
Und schöne, weiße Wolken ziehn dahin
Durchs tiefe Blau wie schöne, stille Träume;

pressure

Words Are the Diminution of All Things
The brief secrets are still here,
and the light has come back.
The word remember touches my hand,
But I shake it off and watch the turkey buzzards bank and wheel
Against the occluded sky.
All of the little names sink down,
weighted with what is invisible,
But no one will utter them, no one will smooth their rumpled hair.
There isn’t much time, in any case.
There isn’t much left to talk about
as the year deflates.
There isn’t a lot to add.
Road-worn, December-colored, they cluster like unattractive angels
Wherever a thing appears,
Crisp and unspoken, unspeakable
in their mute and glittering garb.
All afternoon the clouds have been sliding toward us
out of the Blue Ridge.
All afternoon the leaves have scuttled
Across the sidewalk and driveway, clicking their clattery claws.
And now the evening is over us,
Small slices of silence
running under a dark rain,
Wrapped in a larger.

davor

Daß es uns, ehe wir es recht erkannt, verläßt;
Den Wächter, der des Nachts die Stunden rufet, hören;
